Karnataka paceman Vinay Kumar also found a berth while Amit Mishra, Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma made a comeback to the team which will be captained by Gautam Gambhir. Young Suresh Raina was named his deputy.
Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla and the temperamental paceman S Sreesanth, both of whom featured in India’s World Cup-winning squad, were dropped from the team announced by BCCI secretary N Srinivasan after a meeting of the selection committee here.
The three seniors — Dhoni, Tendulkar nd paceman Zaheer Khan — who have been rested for the ODI series and the lone Twenty20 match, would be available for the Test series.
The series starts with the Twenty20 match on June 4 followed by the five one-dayers, starting June 6. The three Tests are scheduled from June 20.
“Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan have been rested. They will be available for the Test series,” Srinivasan said in a statement.
Opener Virender Sehwag was not considered for selection as he will undergo a shoulder surgery which will him rule him out for four to six weeks.
Paceman Ashish Nehra was also not considered as he is recovering from finger injury sustained during the World Cup.
Ambati Rayudu, who has been a prolific scorer in the ongoing IPL, failed to get the nod with the selectors preferring to go the more experienced Badrinath.

Osama bin Laden’s fifth wife has claimed that the killed al-Qaeda leader was not on kidney dialysis, but used to take Viagra during his stay in his Pakistani compound.
Insisting that bin Laden used to take the herbal impotence drug, Amal al-Sadeh, who was shot in the leg when SEALs burst into their bedroom and killed the terror leader, said: “He believed in his own medication.”
Osama Bin Laden wasn’t on kidney dialysis – but he did need a herbal impotence drug.
The New York Daily Newsquoted the Yemeni woman as saying that her husband had fully recovered from two kidney surgeries a decade ago, and that he needed no dialysis before his death, but cured himself with his own regimen, which included watermelons.
It was also reported that the Saudis had hired an assassin to poison Bin Laden in 1999, and the toxin gave him kidney failure.
In January 2002, then-Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf had also claimed that the terrorist leader had probably already died of kidney failure, and that he needed to travel with two dialysis machines.
Now however, evidence from the medicine cabinet in Bin Laden’s hideout has revealed that he was not that weak as he was expected to be.
“He was neither weak nor frail,” 29-year-old Sadeh said.
The medicines that were found in the compound reportedly included drugs to treat shingles, ulcers, nerve pain, high blood pressure, and Avena syrup, an extract of wild oats that is marketed as a natural “Viagra”.

US now looking for Al Zawahiri - India

US now looking for Al Zawahiri: Donilon

Dr Sanjay Kumar Cardiothoracic Cardiac Heart Surgeon India
Washington:  Terming the killing of Osama bin Laden as the most significant achievement against Al Qaeda, a top White House official on Sunday said the US is now looking for his deputy Ayman al Zawahiri, who is likely to be the new chief of the terror outfit.

"Al Zawahiri will be the next number one terrorist that we're looking for in the world. But we have a broad and global effort," the National Security Advisor Tom Donilon told CNN in an interview.

Donilon said the information gathered from the compound where bin Laden was living is that he was also engaging in a strategic and operational leadership as well, which makes the action last Sunday even more significant in his view.

"This was the most significant achievement against Al Qaeda and our nation's efforts against Al Qaeda over the last ten years. But we have to remain vigilant. And we are remaining vigilant. The amount of intelligence we got as a result of the raid, in addition to taking out bin Laden, is really extraordinary," he said.

Navy SEALs on Monday raided bin Laden's walled compound in Abbottabad in Pakistan and killed him. Donilon said the US forces basically went to Al Qaeda's commander's headquarters in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

"They entered the compound and were fired upon. They had to breach several walls and doors to get to where Osama bin Laden was. At no point during the course of this operation did Osama bin Laden indicate that he was prepared to surrender," he said.

The messages that have come back to the United States from around the world, is that this was a just action, that in fact this was a just action against a man who had committed murder, not just in the United States but around the world, he said.

"The other message that's come back has been interesting, from a strategic point of view, a step back, is a message of United States carrying out here over the course of two administrations, a persistent, deliberate and dedicated effort to achieve its goals. The message is that the United States will carry out and execute now what it says it's going to do, and it has the capability to do so," Donilon said.

Inside the raid that killed bin Laden - India

Inside the raid that killed bin Laden

Helicopters descended out of darkness on the most important counterterrorism mission in U.S. history. It was an operation so secret, only a select few U.S. officials knew what was about to happen.

The location was a fortified compound in the affluent Pakistani suburbs of Islamabad. The target was Osama bin Laden.
Intelligence officials discovered the compound in August while monitoring an al-Qaida courier. The CIA had been hunting that courier for years, ever since detainees told interrogators that the courier was so trusted by bin Laden that he might very well be living with the al-Qaida leader.
Nestled in an affluent neighborhood, the compound was surrounded by walls as high as 18 feet, topped with barbed wire. Two security gates guarded the only way in. A third-floor terrace was shielded by a seven-foot privacy wall. No phone lines or Internet cables ran to the property. The residents burned their garbage rather than put it out for collection. Intelligence officials believed the million-dollar compound was built five years ago to protect a major terrorist figure. The question was, who?
The CIA asked itself again and again who might be living behind those walls. Each time, they concluded it was almost certainly bin Laden.
President Barack Obama described the operation in broad strokes Sunday night. Details were provided in interviews with counterterrorism and intelligence authorities, senior administration officials and other U.S. officials. All spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive operation.

Prince William looked dashing in a red tunic with a blue sash, the uniform of an Irish Guards colonel – his most senior honorary appointment. The bride looked enchanting in a long Chantilly lace-sleeved gown with a train and a tiara borrowed from her grandmother-in-law Queen Elizabeth.
The lofty Westminster Abbey, which has seen history unfold over the centuries, reverberated to the sound of hymns. This was also the place of the funeral service of William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales, on Sep 6, 1997. It has been the coronation church since 1066 and is the final resting place of 17 monarchs.
The Archbishop of Canterbury conducted the solemn wedding ceremony, a grand affair with 1,900 guests, including some 50 foreign heads of state.

Gambhir’s KKR beat Sehwag’s DD by 17 runs

New Delhi: It turned out to be a sweet ‘homecoming’ for Gautam Gambhir as Kolkata Knight Riders comprehensively beat Delhi Daredevils by 17 runs to notch up their fourth win in the Indian Premier League here today.

Put into bat, Manoj Tiwary’s gutsy half century helped KKR post a modest 148 for seven and then their bowlers got the dangerous Virender Sehwag and David Warner within the first seven overs to restrict the home to 131 for nine.
The win took KKR to eight points while Delhi stay put on four following their fifth loss and their road to recovery from here looks pretty bleak.
Not only it was satisfying for Gambhir to earn the bragging rights over best buddy Sehwag but it also brought the smile back in the face of Shah Rukh Khan who enjoyed his first victory in his hometown as he shook a leg with Cheer Girls to the tune of Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re.
The Daredevils this season are highly dependent on Virender Sehwag-David Warner combination. While Warner dragged one from Balaji that shaped in slightly onto his stumps, Sehwag (34, 23 balls, 5×4, 1×6) was in a punishing mood as he hit a flurry of boundaries in the first five overs.
It was young Jaidev Unadkat who got the dangerous Daredevils captain with a short ball that hurried onto him as he went for a pull and Balaji, who was standing at deep fine leg, didn’t make any mistake.
Sehwag’s dismissal literally put the brakes on scoring as all the KKR bowlers did a splendid job during the middle overs.
James Hopes (25, 30 balls) simply didn’t get going which led to additional pressure on other batsmen who perished going for big shots. Iqbal Abdulla was the pick of the KKR bowlers scalping three wickets for 25.

World's smelliest flower - India

What's stinking? Oh the world's smelliest flower!

London: The Titan Arum plant, nicknamed the Corpse flower because of its pungent smell of rotting flesh, is in full bloom after 75 years at the University of Basel in Switzerland. The flower was expected to remain open until Easter Sunday.
What's stinking? Oh the world's smelliest flower!
The eight foot plant, indigenous to Indonesia's rainforests, has the largest unbranched shoot in the world. On average, they bloom once in a decade, according to the Daily Mail.
Titan Arum is coveted by collectors and plant enthusiasts around the world because of its strange blooming patterns.
Twelve of them are housed at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in the Princess of Wales Conservatory among hundreds of other tropical plants, according to the Mail.
When the plants are ready to pollinate, the stem heats up to release a pungent smell, which lasts for about three days.
The largest Arum at Kew gardens weighs 200 pounds and grows at a staggering rate of a quarter of an inch an hour.
It guzzles liquid fertiliser and potassium each week to keep up its strength while bedded in roomy surroundings.
Sir David Attenborough, naturalist and a natural history film-maker, who invented the name Titan Arum, was the first to capture it flowering on film for his BBC TV series "The Private Life of Plants".
He dropped the plant's original name - Amorphophallus - perhaps because of the reference to male genitalia, the Mail said.

Dr Sanjay Kumar Cardiothoracic Cardiac Heart surgeon : Terrace gardens
What are the characteristic requirements before one starts working on their own terrace garden?
Terrace garden can be created on any kind of buildings, like residential, apartments, commercial buildings and IT parks. Basic requirements to build terrace gardens include:
a) Selection of space: One has to bear in mind that the area selected to build a terrace garden should have a slight slope, so it can drain water easily and has the capacity to bear the load. That apart, the area should be well lit as sunlight is integral to the growth of the foliage.
b) Water proofing: As the main element of a terrace garden comprises of watering plants and maintaining water in the soil to keep it wet, it is important that the best quality water proofing materials are selected.
c) Maintenance: It is best for one to select the apt foliage and sunlit balconies, water plants everyday or install a drip system for your terrace garden to ensure longevity. Plants that are best suited for terrace gardens include fibrous plants as these are light in weight and the roots of these plants prevent erosion.
