Mahela Jayawardene crosses 10,000-run mark

The stylish right-handed batsman achieved the milestone in the second Test against South Africa at Kingsmead in Durban on Monday.

The 34-year-old is the first Sri Lankan batsmen to achieve the feat. Kumar Sangakkara with 9170 runs is the second highest Test run scorer of the island country.
Going into the second Test match against South Africa, Jayawardene needed only one run to reach the milestone. He reached the figure by pushing for a single off the bowling of Dale Steyn.

Jayawardene was eventually out to South African pacer Morne Morkel for 31. With his Monday's first innings score Jayawardene has now amassed 10,030 runs.

The other batsmen to have made 10,000 runs or more are - Sachin Tendulkar (15183), Rahul Dravid (13094), Ricky Ponting (12718), Jacques Kallis (12036), Brian Lara (11953), Allan Border (11174), Steve Waugh (10927) and Sunil Gavaskar (10122).
